I was told that there is a part in the movie where you can see the shadow of a munchkin who committed suicide during filming.

Wow! I cannot believe this rumor is still out there! I thought it was put to rest a long time ago!

Anyway, the answer is NO, it did not happen. It was actually a bird, a crane, spreading it's wings in the background. You can read about it here on Snopes:

Also on wiki, (under Trivia catagory):

Your dramatic smile on the picture paired with the question of a munchkin hanging himself was hilarious. Probably not intentional, though made for a good laugh.

To the reply -- I have never heard of a munchkin being hanged, but I think I know what will be watched New Year's Eve....

NO. It's the large bird (a crane?), first seen near the house the witch is on, moving to the side of the road, among the trees. Not a despondent munchkin. Hilarious that that myth should endure,..as if such an incident would ever end up anywhere NEAR the final cut.

No that's just a myth. What you actually see is a large bird (not an ostrich but something like it, can't remember exactly what) flapping it's wing, but it is in the shadows and so far in the back of the scene that it kind of looks like someone hung himself and is swinging. If you want to see it, go to the scene where Dorothy is in the woods with the Tin Man and Scarecrow, and the witch shows up, threatens them. Anyways after the witch leaves and they start to skip off and sing, just before the seen cuts, look at the background and you will see it.

This is a bona-fide myth; an urban legend.

The way I hear it told was that it was a stagehand who accidentally hung himself. Lot of nonsense, really.

It is a man that hung himself, he was part of the stage crew. It is right after the pan right when the witch in on the roof and catches the scarecrow on fire. I saw it when I was in Film School years ago....
