That depends where you live. In the US, 18 is generally considered adult, in that you can make binding contracts and other decisions; though you can't drink until you are 21.
In some countries, the age of majority (when you are considered an adult) is 21.

In most states you are legally an adult at 18, and can be charged for adult crimes. You can also vote, and guys have to register for selective service. You can join the military and get killed in Iraq. You can't drink alcohol til you are 21, though it used to be 18 in my state. You can gamble in many states at 18, and can buy cigarettes at 18. You can also buy real estate. In my opinion, 18 is legally an adult.

Actually... the answer depends on where in the US you are, and what you mean by adult.
Age of consent, age of majority, and other kind of "adult hood" are granted at various ages in different states. By the time you are 21, you have all of them in all states.

yes it is in fact your parents can get in legal trouble for things you do until your 21 and they will accept you at children's hospital until your 21
