k ...YOU GOT ME!
I have done that before, but in my defense, I was preoccupied and didnt realize it until I was fumbling in my purse after I had left the store.

Give it back. The cashier has a tough enough job without having to answer for a discrepancy at the end of his/her day.

This actually happen to me in real life, I give the money back to the cashier. It is better to be honest and truthful, besides I would feel guilty.

It depends. A big chain store, I keep it. They can absorb the mistake. A small business, I give it back. They might be struggling and $20 could make a huge difference to them.

Give it back - I even went back to the bank and gave the teller the $100 she gave me that was too much. I have even given them more money when they didn't charge enough.

I would definitely give it back. They can get into trouble for being off their count. Even though it is their mistake, I would want to help them out.
