EDIT: I just noticed in your "additional details" that you're only 12, so I've removed all Stephen King books from my recommendations, as they contain subject matter which most would find inappropriate for a 12-year-old.

Right now I'm reading "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien and it's wonderful. Mr. Tolkien really draws a reader into the magical world full of hobbits, elves, dwarves, and orcs. If you've seen the movies you'll love the books, as they contain events that were excluded from the movies.

"The Hobbit," a sort of prelude to "The Lord of the Rings" is also very good. It is the tale of Bilbo Baggins, Frodo Baggin's uncle.

Some good books written with children/young adults in mind are the "Harry Potter" series, which you are probably familiar with if you read often, the "Cirque Du Freak" series by Darren Shan, which chronicles the adventures of a young half-vampire, and "The Chronicles of Narnia," a fantasy series by C.S. Lewis.

Other book recommendations:

Animal Farm by George Orwell

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

Hey, I am almost your age. I just read The Saga Of Darren Shan or The Cirque Du Freak series and it was great. It's about the adventure of a half-vampire. It you preffer a more touching story(The Saga Of Darren Shan is nice but it is a fantasy-fiction story with 12 books in total!), I would recommend Through A Glass, Darkly. The book is mainly about a girl who is ill and visited by an angel. There are many others but they are not as nice.

Well, their is the usual Harry Potter, Eragon, Abarat, etc. But other good books are Darkhenge, Pride and Prejudice (it's an old classic!), Witch Child, Eight Cousins (another classic!), the Magyk series, Warriors: Into The Wild Series, Dear America series...the list is never-ending. If you can, ask an librarian or go to bookadventure.com. You can win prizes and they can give you a list of books based on your interests! Good luck finding a good book!

Hey, I'm 12 too. I just started reading "I'd tell you I love you, but then I'd have to kill you" by Ally Carter and it is really really good! My all-time favorite series is "Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging" By Louise Rennison. And, much as I hate to admit it, the clique series is really good too! Yea and anything by meg cabot. And the "sloppy firsts" series by megan mccafferty. Oh, and "The Boyfriend List" by E. Lockhart. As for more grown up books, I reccomend "1984" by George Orwell, and "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" By...I can't remember who right now. Also...if you're up for something more serious, take up Jane Austen and Edith Warton.

The Kingdom Keepers, I am reading this right now, and it's hard to put down. Thrilling, suspenseful, engaging. It's about five kids who get trapped in Disney World at night, when the gates are shut and the lights go out.
