The question should read. A car dealer has 22 vehicles on his lot. If 8 of the vehicles are vans and 6 of the vehicles are red, and 10 vehicles are neither vans nor red, how many red vans does he have on his lot?

2 Vans are red.
We were told 6 vehicles in total were red, so we know that 16 are not red. Since of these 16, 10 are not red and not vans (as told to begin with), we see that 6 of these are vans that are not red.
So we have 6 non-red vans. Since we were told we had 8 vans to begin with, and 6 are not red, we are left with 2 of the vans being red.

Like you said in the question, six of them (vans) are red.
Did you mean six of the cars are red? That's a more interesting question, at first I thought that's what you were asking. Here's how you would figure it:
When combining sets, n(AUB) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A@B) So...
Number of Vans + number of Red cars - number of Red Vans = total number of cars - number of cars which are neither red nor vans. Insert the numbers you know, solve, and you get 2 red vans.
Symbolically,
n(V) + n(R) - n(V@R) = n(U) - n(V@R)~
Now, substituting,
8 + 6 - n(V@R) = 22 - 10
14 - n(V@R) = 12
-n(V@R) = -2
n(V@R) = 2
So there are two red vans, if the alternative reading of your question is correct. OTherwise, reading at face value, there are six red vans.
PS I see I did answer the question the way you intended it, only I used the word "cars" the way you use the word "vehicles" in your amended question. Substitute this word and you're good to go.
