I just purchased a Dell Dimension E521 AMD 64 X2 3800+ 512MB PC.

It was advertised as having 3.8 Ghz. Now, when I go to "View system information", it shows:

Dell Dimension DIME521
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 4200+
2.20Ghz (this number changes - it was 900-something before)
448MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Is there something wrong or am I wrong on something?

What is up with the varying clock speed (Mhz/Ghz)

Isnt it supposed to be 3.8 as advertised?

I have Norton Internet Security 6 installed on the PC. Might it be the factor that's sinking the clock speed?

AMD have always had a way with their clock speed, their 3200 socket A model was in fact running at 2400 effective gxz (approx) but it was as fast a processor as a pentium that run at a true 3200ghz so why not number it the same? People go for the biggest numbers when they buy, meaning they want the fastest and this 2400 was on a par with the then fastest Pentium. I have lost touch with processors the last 2 years but there are many free programs that will tell you exactly what your machine is running, including name and type and speed of processor then there are many shops that sell whatever your machine is running and that's how you know whether you got ripped off or not.

No someone ripped you off you need to call what ever credit card company you payed for it with and put a stop payment on the item then open a dispute with the seller and tell him that this isn't what was advertised and send it back to him you are getting ripped off I have the same computer and I ordered the biggest processor it comes in and its a 2.80 not a 3.8.

we could be sparkling right here. The E521 is a BTX format. If Dell are following the BTX specs you will desire a BTX PSU as an ATX won't have the main remarkable motherboard connector. you may get ATX/BTX properly suited PSUs even nonetheless. in line with threat thats your terrific wager because of the fact of this upgrading those uncomplicated setups is now and returned no longer somewhat incredibly-priced, when you have upgraded the PSU, RAM CPU and video card its virtually as affordable to get yet another base unit in case you google on BTX + PSU you will get loads of hits
