I always recommend looking for ideas for a short story or book by writing down odd thoughts or observations that pass through your mind.

I've read that Tolkien started "The Lord of The Rings" while he was in a trench in WWI, when the phrase ''Somewhere a Hobbit lives in a Hobbit hole" passed through his mind, and he decided to look into it further.

Assuming you're at home, I recommend looking around your room and start talking to the first stuffed toy you see, or an imaginary being that is living in your closet. Relax, and your mind will respond with an answer, and the conversation will go on form there. In a short time, you and a stuffed toy could begin to build a universe.

Write about something you know well. Perhaps a book based on your current age to sell to kids 2 years younger.

write a parody based on your life and school, but make it hilarious. have a story based on how ur french teacher shows signs of being bipolar and how your english teacher is a fat polar bear. make it something you know ur class mates will be able to relate to. talk about how of course your math teacher has a straight part in her hair bc she uses a ruler. put inside jokes in it.
