The cover (cap) I am looking for is actually just a screw on type of a cover. Pretty much like a cap that screws on to the top of a milk jug. It is for a regular 110v outlet on the outside of my house. The cap needs to be 1 1/2" diameter. I remember that the original cover for this outlet also had a short chain on it, so the cap would just hang there when unscrewed so that you wouldn't lose it. The chain broke, and the cap was lost a few years ago. I have already tried to look for it at local small hardware stores, as well as big box retailers such as home depot, lowes, and others, as well as electrical supply places. If you know where I could get one, please let me know.

Forget about buying a replacement cover (cap). You would be better off to replace the whole cover plate. This is a rather specialized item that you probably will not find at Home Depot or Lowe's. Take your old cover plate (less cap) to an electrical wholesaler. Most of them will sell to individuals, although you may have to pay list price. If they can't find an exact match, you may have to replace the receptacle as well.

You would be better off by replacing your outlet with a new one. By the NEC (National Electrical Code) you would need a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) type outlet and an "in use" cover. This would protect anyone working with or using the outlet from a potentially fatal electrical shock. It also is probably required by your local municipality and / or state. If you feel uncomfortable installing it call an electrician.

Not quite sure if I understand your problem but for a 1-1/2 inch opening you can go to a plumbing supply place for an iron pipe threaded cap. May even find it in the big box retailers.

Yes, just about any electric supply store should have them, might have to buy the whole round electricaol outlet. Best idea would be to ge a electric tech to change this to a more modem one with 2 recepticals.
