They might only want people below a certain age, like 30 or so, so that they would be young parents. The idea is intriguing; starting over & trying to prevent the societal & cultural mistakes of the past.
Great question!

Well there's the Disneyland type answers and then there's the more realistic one that involves a great race between different global governments or even corporations to get there first and exploit whatever resources they can find. Your colonies grow from that.
That's how the different parts of our own world were colonized. In the past it was sailing ships, in the future it'll be space ships but everything else will work the same.

It sounds risky but very exciting to be part of something so new and important. If I were recruiting for such a mission I would want to be sure that everyone involved had carefully considered what it means to leave Earth (and everyone/thing on it) behind with no guarantee of ever seeing them again. It would be too easy for people to have serious regrets and become depressed. I wonder if it would be better to send couples or singles on such a mission?
That is an interesting article, thanks for including the link.

Yes i would go too with maybe 50 of my bestest (and smartest) friends
Then after I got there I would radio back to earth somehow that it was really bad and had scary monsters in the hopes that the rest of you would stay on earth :)
With all the real estate in the cosmos if we'd limit mans population on each world to a few million instead of billions we'd all be rich beyond our wildest dreams. Out there is plenty for every one.
same here just we got to learn how to share :)

And who will determine that the lifeforms there are not "intelligent"?
Aliens visiting our planet may well determine, based on our warlike behavior and primitive technology, that we are not "intelligent" and so, not worth worrying about as they arrive to start their new world.

No.
We are planet wreckers. We should not be let loose on another one until we learn to look after the one we have got. We do not deserve it.
