In my opinion, empathy would effect my political viewpoint, though it would only be one factor of many.

I think so. I feel for the poor and the needy so I tend to favor capitalism and any political leader willing to shrink the government so business can grow. This is a rare leader indeed and I know of few with this view so I tend to be pretty discouraged about the future and caring for the needy. The government is harming the poor by getting bigger and making business shrink. In time our economy will be like that of France where unemployment is way up and wealth down and the poor can hardly learn new skills because there is no more freedom for them to grow. The government will just relegate them to poverty and give them small handouts. So my empathy has really driven me to an anti-government position that no major political part shares.
