Well for a start, do you have an ISP?

You gotta have an ISP or DSL. Try to get a local ISP who can get you going. Once you download the ISP's program, you need to set up a user id. and a password. make your password hard for hackers to find. put numbers and alfa letters in it.
Connect your phone line to the rear of your computer of course . If you have an operating system, then click on start at the bottom, select internet explorer. Once you hear it dialing your modem, you'll get info on how to proceed. That will hopefully get you started.

Call the company's help line. They will probably make sure that all the information is correct -- user namer, password, POP number, etc... etc... Also, go into the Control Panel and turn off your firewall temporarily and see if that helps. It's no problem turning it back on later. If it works then, you have to change the settings in the firewall.

If you aren't using dial-up, then you have to go to the Control Panel and click Network Settings, then click LAN/ High Speed, then click Enable Connection. Even if you are using dial-up, you can go to the Control Panel/ Network Connections/ Dial Up and look at all the information there to make sure it is correct.
