there could be a lot of reasons for this. They could be too caught up in there own life to have time for close friends. They could also be a shy type of person or just really dont get out much to meet close friends.

It's ok to have just one friend, it's not ok to have no friends. Closeness is a subjective issue, and as long as someone is not CLOSED to friendship there is not a problem.
