There are many teachers that I have greatly admire.

The teachers were all passionate about what they were teaching and truly wanted to pass on their knowledge to the students. They wanted to be there as a mentor for the student also. They were very organized and clear of what they were expecting from the students. Their lectures were either very informative or inspirational, if not both. They knew what they were doing and they were doing it well.

Also, I liked how I could talk to them outside of regular class hours for extra help. They were very supportive and they always pushed me to a higher standard. I would admit that their class weren't easy, but it wasn't impossible. Because of that, it felt wonderful when I got the grade that I did. It felt like I truly earned it and worked hard.

4th Grade. Mr. Brown. He always listened and he cared most of all. He caught me cheating on a test once that year, and rather than read me the riot act and turn me in, he asked me, "why did you cheat", which I told him; I was afraid of failing.. - he responded with, cheating is failing, and he helped me pass honestly, without ever bringing it up to my parents, or the school. Very Good Man, that Mr. Brown. So what makes a teacher great? One that cares, and is willing to invest personal time. I don't know how much that happens any more - but he did help change my life, and I'll always remember, and thank him for that.

My 7th grade reading teacher was so nit-picky and made us memorize the presidents. We also had to read a book a month [or something like that]; when we completed the book we had to do these silly little book reports. I thought these exercises she had us do were ridiculous and a waste of time. Now that I'm halfway through with high school, I've realized the stuff she said, and the time-consuming questions in our book report forms had purpose. Her class helped me through many essays [as well as through countless trivial pursuit questions.]

A Great Teacher is someone who takes to time to get to know his/her students. Of course the teaching is critical but when an instructor takes time to get to know their students and gives just a little bit more and is passionate about their subject matter then you have a Master Teacher. Remember students won't care what you know unless they know that you care.

My math teacher in high school was intense. He taught as if our lives depended on the information we were about to receive. He would not settle for mediocrity. He had high expectations of us and we could tell he had high expectations of himself.

My Biology teacher was also great, but what made him great was the he cared so much and you could tell he poured so much of himself into his teaching that if you failed you knew you were letting him down.

They treated me like a person, not just a student. At the same times they taught me life lessons. They let class get off topic if they thought we would learn from it.
