If you mean PSP (Playstation Portable), there is only one main version so far.
If you are referring to the firmware, then the latest is 3.03, you can download it here for US models:

If you meant PS2 or PS3, then it's debateable which is best. For value and range of games, the PS2 is still great. The PS3 is expensive, but has great graphics and inclused a blu-ray drive that may become the new high definition DVD standard eventually.

My son loves the PS2 and its not as expensive as PS3
