Could someone on this budget afford an I-pod?

Someone I know is always buying new clothes and shopping every weekend, recieved a new I-POD for Christmas, and is constantly talking about the new things she has etc. She is the 2nd child of a divorced small-town teacher with an older sister in collage. Is it possible for her to have accomplished all these things.

And a lot of the stick players, like the Creative Zen Nano can be had for like $50 bucks
