its not a holiday, its just a day that begins a year. Do we celebrate new years EVE? no its just the last day of the year. It has no meaning like valentines day, Easter,Xmas,thanksgiving.

I've wondered the same thing. Maybe technically it may not be a holiday, but Uncle Sam gives his workers off New Years day, so that to me makes it a holiday.
