"Important" would not be the word I would use when speaking of death. Both gentlemen are very well known though I think people around the world know of James Brown more than Gerald Ford (the same way more people know Britney Spears more than the name of the current vice president..umm...Dick Chaney).
The day after James Brown died, my co-workers were talking about it. NO ONE mention Gerald Ford even once today.
The reason? I think people are more about entertainment and less about politics and current world affairs.

NO . . . J.B. was a great entertainer, but he had some serious issues that I won't go into detail out of respect for the dead. Gerald Ford was the President through some rough times, even if it was only for 2 1/2 years.

Both gave contributions to us all. Mr. Brown gave us the gift of music and entertainment (which BTW, is the category P&S is in) and Mr. Ford gave us the gift of his political prowess (even though I was just a kid when he was president and I am a democrat.) Neither one was more important than the other. May they both finally get the rest they deserve.

Both men made significant contributions in their respective fields, Music & Politics. Who can find equality in death? Mr. Brown & Mr. Ford were two very important men who left us with their legacies.

I don't feel any one persons death is more important then another we are all born the same way, live different lives, but in the end we're back to all being the same.

No. James Brown, despite his musical talent, was a proven woman-beater, criminal and drug addict. As much as I may like his music, I never bought an album of his. I will not put money in the pocket of an abuser, nor mourn his death.

Hey, they both died. It's sad, but people die. One is no more important than the other. Ford, however, made a greater contribution to this country while he was alive and that is what matters - what you do BEFORE you die.

They were both extremely important and inevitable deaths. They are also both media events. I'm sure I will be forced to hear about their deaths for many weeks longer than I plan to hear about my own.

I wouldn't say it was more important...probably equal. They both were geniuses in their own right, and they both worked very hard in life and enriched the lives of millions of others with their lives work.
So, in my opinion, I wouldn't say that either of them were less important than the other. They both deserve the attention that they're getting.
