Ferrets or a rabbit maybe. I would say guinea pig but they take alot of work and time to get them to trust you, so do hamsters and mice. Too bad your mom doesnt like rats that would be my first choice. You could try to educate her more on rats as pets. Go online and research rats as pets. Anyone who has ever owned one has nothing but good things to say
