James Brown was born in 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina, the only son of a gas station attendant.
When he was only four, his parents separated and he grew up in the brothel run by his aunt in Augusta, Georgia.

I've read that he was born in N.Y in 1933 and raised very poorly by an aunt. I also heard that he, as an adult, had beaten a hooker beyond recognition. Pulverized her face. Is this true?
