I currently have a communiy tank - at the moment it has a couple of gouramis. Tetras, pleco and a pair of angel fish. I would like to add a black ghost knife fish - would this be compatable with my current set up (it is a standard 4 Ft fish tank (200 litres))

Black ghost knife fish are relatively peaceful fish that will do well with the fish that you have including your gouramis. There are aggressive towards each other so I wouldn’t buy more than one. They get to be almost 2 feet in length so you will need a large aquarium.

Hope this helps!

A BGK will outgrow a 50 gallon (200 litre) tank. They need 100 gallons (or more) as adults.. They will also be big enough to eat many of your fish, and should be kept by themselves anyway.
They aren't the easiest fish to keep and are not recommended for beginners or anyone who is not prepared to give them a 100 gallon tank to themselves, with lots of caves, as an adult.

How about some rams? Or some kribensis cichlid? Or a black angelfish? Instead of the BGK?

Black Ghost knifes grow in excess of 2 feet and are WAY too big for your tank. They also will eat just about anything living.

you have a perfect set up for your ghost knife they are harmless just got to make sure your other fish dont eat all the food on him because they are almost blind make sure you feed the tank alittle when the lights are out just a small amount so he can eat and provide a hiding cave or tube.
