Do you as an American feel that the invention of the Music Television Channel in the 80's has since destroyed music?!
I often hear people say that music was so much better in the 70's and before. Do you think that MTV has responsibility for this?
I have also heard "MTV takes your culture and sells it back to you."
Do you agree?! Why or Why not?

MTV has, in my opinion, been a major player in the dumbing down of American musical consciousness. American Idol is its bastard child. But MTV is only a tool in more powerful hands. And yes, they do capitalize on culture. That isn't necessarily bad, but when people are buying mass produced individuality, there's not so much something wrong with this picture, but something rotten festering in the viewer. "Big Brother's not watching you, mate, you're f'n watchin' him!" (that's a crass quote)

I think that the intentions were good, and MTV was great for long time, but I'd say since reality t.v began things have gone downhill. When do you ever see music videos on the stupid channel anyways, never. Oh and if you are lucky enough to catch the countdown, you get to see all the top 20 videos, wippidi doo! I would love all music channels to try to insert music videos back in their mix. And for the last part of your question, whatever, who cares, everyones take on things will be different and thats cool.

I think music went out of style before the 70's. I can't imagine what MTV's appeal is. To me, it is a vision of hell.
Everybody doesn't have the same taste in music, but what has been passing for music the last few decades is really hard to describe.
If music is an art from, by implication, it is not something that everyone can do. And yet, fools pay millions of dollars to watch people who dress and behave as losers and misfits, scream, shriek and curse. This is not music, it is anti-music.
I guess my favorite is rap. Listening to some inarticulate moron talk about killing, and how bad he is, to the accompaniement of electronic drums. What culture!

I just don't thik that MTV is about music anymore! They do sell the current culture back to then teens and young adults and force some ideals on them. I do not think they are responsible for the music made in society, because frankly, they are more concerned with reality television.

I do not think MTV has ruined Music, it depends on the era you came from, you may look at the music we have now as a bunch of noise, but I like the new musical artist out there today, but nothing beats back My 80's music.

I don't really consider MTV to be music. it is TV that is occasionally music related.
