I'm asking because I started late on ballet and want to know how much i need to catch up and figure out what they do in ballet classes that are a level or above mine. :) Thanks and I don't care if you're younger or older just tell me and it should help. <3

I train at Houston Ballet Academy and I'm in level 6 out of the eight levels. Throughout the week I have many different teachers and while their styles of teaching vary a regular ballet class consists of an almost set pattern: combinations at the barre (which include plies, tendus, etc.) and combinations out in the center which usually include turns and jumps. As you gradually progress you need to push yourself a little harder each class: an extra pierouette, a higher jump, and to kick your leg up higher.

I own the Pleasants County Dance Academy, in West Virginia. I also instruct the advanced ballet classes there. I have my students utilize many different strengthening techniques, because you can't get better until your muscles get stronger. We stretch daily for 30 minutes before classes, (and my advanced students take about 10-15 hours of classes per week). They have a 20 minute minute barre routine of tendus and plies, which focuses on tensing and releasing muscles in the upper leg. After the barre, they work on jumps at center, followed by traveling turns, then stationary turns at center. I am very strict about my students arms, so They also have a tri/bi-cep exercise that they do for about 15 minutes a day before combinations start so that their arms will tense and work while they are dancing.
I recommend all my students in advanced classes do Yoga, as it DRASTICALLY aids in the strengthening process of your body's muscles. Pilates is good, but can be over done, ballerinas need to be strong, but they need to also look delicate, and pilates tend to bulk muscles a little too much.
For higher jumps: stand at barre, en first parallel, and with bended knees, relevee for four counts and be sure to tense all leg muscles, then release. Do one rep of five, then rest. I recommend 30-50 reps a day.
For stronger turns: this goes back to the strong arm thing. Your arms are what give you your initial momentum in a turn, it helps to have a strong start. Afterwards, most of the momentum comes from spotting, so practice spotting.

I learn in a ballet school in Japan. I'm in the advanced class and I'm 16.
We do barre class and then center which consists of plies tendus ect. (both barre and center) and then in center we do triple turns and lots of technical jump. I don't know how old you are, but i don't think it's ever too late to start ballet. Theres lots of professional ballerinas/ballet dancers who started ballet when they were like 10 aldready, such as Kumakawa Testsuya (a famous Japanese ballet dancer). What matters is how hard you work.

I started when I was 3 but had to stop when I was 12 last yr, just halfway through Grade 5 . Thinking of starting again, so see, I'm probably slower than you are.

And uh... I live on the other side of the world,.(judging by the answers other ppl have given you, you're nowhere near Asia. )

The more classes you take the stronger and better you will get. Just work hard and commit yourself to getting better. Don't worry about the fact that you started late, it will only hold you back.

I started "late" as they say and I was able to become a professional dancer. Practice makes perfect. Take as many classes as you can each day/week. Go to many auditions, participate in as many shows that you can.

Good luck!
