I heard that cramps during pregnancy is normal....just as long as they aren't sharp pains or anything....I get sharp pains when I do anything strenuous like sit up too fast from laying down. But it feels like I'm gonna start my period anytime now. What are these cramps caused by and when do they go away? Is there anything I can do to prevent them from happening?

HI. I am about 6 weeks also and the same thing keeps happening to me. I noticed that a lot of times, following the cramps, I have to use the bathroom either to urinate or (sorry) bowel movement. I read in my pregnancy book that gas can cause cramp like pains. Also, the stretching of your uterus causes cramps. I lay on my sides and the pain is usually releived. My advise, this is completely normal so long as there is no bleeding. Do not take medication to avoid harming your baby at this critical time of growth. If you feel very concerned with this, see your doctor.
Wish you the best of luck, and relax, everything will be just fine.

"The pain you are experiencing may be ligament pain or spasm (a stretching, burning kind of pain in the left and/or right lower quadrant). This is normal in early pregnancy and as the uterus is better supported by the pelvic brim -- after about 20 weeks or so -- this should subside." BUT - if you are concerned it is better to go to your OB. That is what they are there for...any good OB would rather have you come in everyday and it be nothing then to not come in and it be some thing.

Rest, relax, drink plenty of fluides, lay on your left side.

Some cramping may be normal..as your body is adjusting to the hormones and changes taking place within and your intestines are also adjusting to the growing uterus. If you feel an intense tightening or hardening of the uterus, see your doc immediately. Always ask your doctor if you have any concerns.

when i was 6 weeks i went to the hospital for cramps found out everything was ok... and i was having twins. they told me it is very common to have cramps because your body is going through so many changes. if you get a fever or the pain gets really bad go to the hospital and have an ultrasound to be sure that you and the baby are ok.

Absolutely normal hun. Scared the crap outta me. My hubby had to lock me in the room to stop me from going to the ER everytime I felt a bit of discomfort. Just the ol uterus stretching. Get use to it though. It gets a bit worse as time goes by. GOOD LUCK!

Report all cramps to your doctor. But if your not bleeding heavily, it is most likely normal. Remember something is growing in there and you may cramp. I know many people that did.

I got cramping a lot my 3rd pregnancy. And he turned out to be 8lbs!!

Take it easy! Put your feet up, drink LOTS of water, and pay attention to your body. If you are real concerned call your OB. someone should always be on call!!

Good luck!!
