I think she is looking for a way to make herself feel better. She has always been a little cheap but asking me for a nice name to call her has been hard to come up with. As you can see I can't think of positive ones. Please help. I like her, but I love Christmas and the fun of giving and sharing with loved ones. So do you have any ideas??? Thanks

She is not a JW. She is not poor, in fact she is 'very well off'. She just doesn't like to give any gifts nor does she expect any. She is very gracious when she does receives any. She asked me to come up with a tradition title for "not giving gifts" and I would like a positive one but my first attempts failed. She asked for something like "It's a (X Tradition) that I don't give presents." I need help filling in the blank... I'm thinking "PERSONAL TRADITION". What do you think?

How about "nonparticipant". Maybe she is nonreligious and doesn't want to get swept up in the idea that she must do what retailers demand that she do. BUY, BUY!

Jehovah's Witness?

I know a few people like that. Thing is they don't like GETTING gifts either and have even returned gifts given over the years back to me. My answer is I no longer give them anything. Now I only exchange gifts with those who demonstrate that it is something they enjoy doing. Why make gift giving a chore and a stress when it should be enjoyable?

Thing is IS SHE really the one with the problem? Do people give her gifts expecting gifts in return? I firmly believe that if someone gives a gift they should give it freely and not expect anything in return. Of course, if they feel unappreciated by a person who doesn't give them a gift then they should just scratch that person's name off their list. I also firmly believe that if someone gives you a gift no matter what it is you should always thank them and be grateful that they thought of you, after all, true gift giving is or should be about showing people you care and not about the gift itself.

Maybe your friend doesn't like getting gifts and is hoping that everyone will eventually quit giving her gifts if she doesn't give presents to anyone. Why not let her have the gift of not getting a gift next year? Then you won't have to worry about coming up with a "nice" name to call her.

Have you ever seen "Christmas with the Kranks?" Mr. Krank decides not to celebrate Christmas and the whole town makes a big deal out of it, thing is I thing that he should be left alone to celebrate or not celebrate as he choses. Of course, it is just a movie.

You really didn't mention if she expects gifts to be given her. If she doesn't, hey, more power to her. If she does expect to receive, sorry, there is no "nice" name for someone like that. If that is the case, names like Greedy, Stingy, Selfish, C*&%^#@, and Piggy come to mind. Being cheap has viable reasons, and I really don't think that many people care - it's more the thought that counts when something is given.

OK you said she was cheap is she poor?Does she expect presents?Well if shes poor don't blame her but if shes not I wouldn't be mad or anything. If she does exscpect presents I would talk to her about it, if she doesn't maybe she doesn't like celebrating Christmas or maybe her family doesn't you never know. But in my choice of opionin I would talk to her straight up without knowing any setails but your choice! Make a Good one! *wink* Good Luck!!

She suffers from a rare disease that should be known by her name, and the disease: it cripples the gift buying impulse in her brain.
