I'm trying to switch my 4 1/2 month old baby from breastmilk to formula. Is there one that tastes good? I've tried the powder form of enfamil and it smelled so bad I almost gagged. Needless to say, the baby wouldn't touch it, even when I mixed it with breastmilk. Is it just the powder form that is so bad? Somebody please tell me there is a formula that doesn't taste so nasty!

The pre-mixed stuff smells worse. They don't have taste buds like we do. I had the same reaction when I switched, but the baby doesn't know the difference. I used Parents choice from Wal-Mart. I compare the vitamins and minerals and ingredients and found that they were the same, very close or better than those expensive brands. Try to get the formula warm like your milk, not hot. Make sure you follow the directions on mixing. I found that my son even liked the formula in cool water once the weather got warm, but not all babies are like that. I found the formula dissolved better in cool water. Weird, huh? BTW, I got a lot of flack from people when I switched. Different moms have to stop breast-feeding for different reasons at different times. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty about your decisions. That's YOUR baby.

Haha.. Having tried both, I can tell you breastmilk tastes better. Formula tastes awful. The reason they say not to give a bottle to a breastfed baby is because the bottle is easier than the breast. Some babies get use to the instant gratification they get from the bottle and then don't want to have to work at the breast. And no, I didn't just flat out drink my breastmilk or formula. It's been years since I tasted formula- I was fixing my sister a bottle and got it on my hand. Natural reaction when you get a small amount of food on your fingers- lick it off.. disgusting mistake- it tasted awful! Same with my breastmilk- I was pumping and while pouring it into the storage bag, spilled some on my hands. Breast milk is very sweet, or at least mine is.

Baby formula smells bad especially compared to breast milk. I really wish I could have nursed because it really made me sick to know that the main ingredient in the formula I was using is High fructose Corn Syrup which is a disgusting product. If you are able to pumping might be the best option since it is the best and free (formula was almost $1 a ounce) but if not just realize that yes all the formulas stink. Good Luck

I feel the same way about Enfamil... I tried my daughter on Similac. We tried the regular formula, the soy formula is just as offensive smelling/tasting the others. She also prefers soothie brand nipples and bottles... I hope this helps.

It may take a while before your baby will respond to the change from breastmilk to infant formula. Have you tried the Carnation soy milk? Every infant formula smells yuck. Do you know that humans are the only ones who have their young nurse on milk other than their own (ie: cow's milk)? Try soy milk. It's more natural - veg based.

My friend is a little nutty so she tasted them. The Walmart brand tasted most like breast mild to her. Both she and I had no problem switching a breast fed baby to it. Neither of us mixed it with breast milk. Just water as directed. You might try it.

Another bonus is it is the cheapest.
