What is the difference in thread counts? I know what it technically means, but why is one better? Are the higher thread counts more comfortable, what? Thanks.

Yes, the higher thread counts are much more comfortable. In my opinion, it does reach a point where there is no need to go higher. We find that a 350 to 400 thread count is fine. Less than that doesn't feel quite as nice, higher is very nice, but you also pay a lot more for it. The thread count has to do with the number of threads horizontally and vertically per square inch.

The higher the thread count, the silkier the sheets feel. I find that a count of about 400 - 500 is the most comfortable. I gave my grand daughter 600 count sheets and she thought they were flannel (they are soft). I prefer a smooth finish. The higher the count, the less likely your sheets are to "bead up". They also last longer. Be warned that even though they are high thread count and VERY expensive, they still wrinkle. But, when the lights are out, you can't tell. Just enjoy them!

the higher the thread count the more durable and longer lasting they will be. depending on the weave also high thread counts can be softer, but some high thread count sheets can be not as soft but they are very strong and has great abrasion resistance. basically the higher the thread count the better. the highest thread count i have seen is 1000 thread count ply weave. it can get quite complicated. i belive the lowest thread count i have seen is the 250 thread count. i hope that helps.

The higher the thread count, the smoother the sheet. Lower thread count items feel kind of coarse, and not as luxurious. I won't sleep on anything less than 410 thread count.

It means that there are more (or less, God forbid) per square inch. The higher thread count sheets are softer & wear like iron - I've been using the same two sets of sheets - one 500 & one 600 count - for over five years. They've yet to even have a thread snag, wash up like a dream, and are uber soft & comfy.

The higher the thread count, the softer the sheet is. Plus the higher thread counts don't "pill" as quickly.

I believe the higher thread count the tighter the weave. The tighter the weave the smoother the sheet, or what I call a hard sheet. Best example ,compare flannel to a decent sheet.

The best that I have found is 300, not too thin or too hot to sleep on.I prefer them because of comfort and price...They can be expensive and still not comfortable---you choose....Why have a set of sheets that never wear out, you can get tired of the same ones all the time.....
