I was on the Ortho Tricyclen pill for less than 2 months, and I quit taking it about 3 days ago because I was having some really bad nausea...plus breast tenderness, headaches, backaches, mood swings, fatigue...so many weird symptoms that could have either been pregnancy or pill side-effects. I decided to stop taking the pill because it was so bad I was missing work, and if it WAS just a reaction to the pill, I figured the symptoms would stop and then I'd know I wasn't pregnant. (By the way, I HAVE taken a test, and gotten a negative, but since I'm not technically late, there's no way to know if it's acurate.) I still have all the symptoms, and now I'm spotting, and my period wasn't supposed to come for about a week. I guess this can happen when you stop taking the pill in the middle of a pack. I was just wondering if anything like this had happened to anyone else, and if so, I could you tell me what happened? If you just had to switch pills or wound up to be preggers or what? Thanks!

The same exact thing happed to me when I stopped taking the pill. I got a light period, more like spotting, right after I stopped. And the pill definately made me feel sick at my stomach for about 3 months, and then I got used to it. I wouldn't worry too much, because it's going to take a while for your hormones to get back to normal, so you may even skip a period. Or have 2 in one month. It varies from woman to woman. I'm actually thinking about going back on the pill simply because it regulated my period so much, and made it much easier to handle. You may still feel sick for a little while, but your body just needs time to adjust to the change in the level of hormones. Make sure you use some kind of back up contraceptive though, because my mom told me (she's a nurse) that some women actually release more eggs right after they stop taking the pill. While this may only happen for a couple of months, it makes it hard to tell when you are actually ovulating and it can also result in you becoming pregnant with twins, triplets, or even more. Just be careful!!

try switching pills. Since you're on a triphasic, try a monophasic--that means you take the same kind of pill everyday for 28 days, rather than the three different kinds of pills that come in your monthly pack of ortho.

If the side effects aren't terrible next time, try sticking with it--they often go away after a month or so.
