Easily. Either set up one computer to share its Internet connection, or get a router and plug both computers into that.

Simple answer, YES!
You have a couple options.
1) Peer-to-peer. If the PC has Win98 or higher, it can share its internet connection over a network. in this case just connect it to your laptop with a cross-over cable.
2) Local Area Network. Using a hub - plug DSL modem, PC and Laptop into the hub.

It might work... it depends on the model of the modem and your service provider. You may need to have them open up more cables. There shouldn't be any change in your monthly bill.
Another option would be to get a wireless router with a network card. The router would connect to modem and broadcast the connection throughout the house. Then, get your network adapter...in this case it would be a PC card (since you have a laptop). Plug it into your computer, and install the driver. The computer should connect on its own. If your laptop is a newer model...it might already have the adapter built in.
Tip of advice about buying this equipment... Only get a linksys...
NOT Dlink-Not certified by Windows to run safely on their computer. DLink is going to get sued one of these days for advertising a false Windows Certification.
NOT Trendnet...You won't get reception even in the same room. This also goes for Belkin.
