call the bank the check is written on. They can tell you if the check will clear.

If it's your check call your bank. Checks are written and cashed in other states all the time, but I would advise call the bank.

Wait ten business days after you deposit it. If after the tenth business day and you still have the money in your bank. Then the check is good. It's hard to tell these days if a check is real or fake.
