Nah, it doesnt hurt too much, but then again I have 5 tatoos so...it's really the pulling and pressure that you feel when the vice-grips your belly button skin to stretch it. Keep in mind though it needs special care! I got mine infected twice and just finally took it out. If you have an outie u can't get it done. Keep this is mind:
1. When you shower, the shampoo and body wash has to be throughly washed away from the site. It can get infected.
2. Wear loose clothing, and low cut jeans, your shirts and jeans etc can get caught on the belly button ring and pull it! It hurts!
3. Dont clean it with peroxide or alcohol too much, just 2x a day. It won't heal because it interferes with the bodys natural ability to heal.
4. Don't touch it a lot. Wash your hands before you do! It can present infection to the piercing.
5. It can take up to a whole year to heal completely, mainly because of the un-sanitary place that everybodys belly button is. It can harbor all kinds of stuff, and in the summer your body sweat can cause infections, so can chlorine in water such as swimming pools etc.

Mine didn't hurt to bad to get it done but it did feel like a needle it hurt the most when i would bump it or anything for the next few days. You should be doing sea salt soaks for at least 10min. twice a day and its best to use anti-microbial soap like provon but dial works too. If you use things like rubbing alcohol and stuff like that it will be much harder to heal your piercing. The reason is that those types of things are harsh and may irritate the piercing or possibly make it reject. The piercer should tell you everything you need to know though and should have a pamphlet or something with the instructions.

i've had this done twice. The first time I really screwed it up and it never healed correctly...then got pregnant so I took it out. Second time I actually listened to the instructions they gave me and had no problem. First of all it doesn't hurt too bad when they pierce it. It's the next few days that it's sore. The absolute best thing to do is buy Dial antibacterial liquid soap. When you shower put it on your ring and spin it through your belly and thouroughly rinse. Do not put peroxide on it as I did thinking that it would get the yuckies off. This will eat the crusty junk and your skin. Just wash with the Dial!!!!

Well I pierced my belly button when I was 13, and the girl that went before me practically passed out, so that really freaked me out, so I go sit on the chair, he cleans it, marks it, and then tells me to breath in and out 3 times, and on the 3rd he pierced it, I didnt look, and it did hurt alot, I didnt cry or anything, but it's painful, it took a long time to heal, because it's a pretty big hole, If would bump it a little bit, and it would bleed, you have to take really good care of it, cuz it easily gets infected, they suggest ointment to put daily, and that helps with the pain alot. Everyone I have ever asked if it hurt said no, so maybe for you it wont, but for me it did! well goodluck, and the pain is worth how cute it looks after it heals! I'm sure it will look great! well t/c byby
