Yeah, it works just about everything. However, depending on the strokes, it'll done different areas.

(Just some examples)
Breastroke - back, lats, pecs, triceps, maybe quads and calves, w/e the muscle on the inside of your legs are.
Butterfly - abs, back, pecs, lats, deltoids...
Freestyle - core (from rotation), pecs, triceps, quads, hamstrings, calves
Backstroke - core, quads, pecs,

All in all, mainly core and entire arm. oh yea, dont forget your heart.

It depends on what you are good at. Just recreational swimming does very little, but if you decide to do some competitive swimming, it tones arms, back, upper legs, and sometimes abs! It is also a very good way to loose weight, I know, I have seen people drop almost 12 pounds by swimming intensely enough, and seriously enough. Most of your body will become more toned, but in some areas, you will see drastic improvements!

EVERY SINGLE MUSCLE. Kicking and pushing off the wall works your legs, the arm pull works your arms, trying to float and doing the butterfly kick, along with backstroke exercises your abs. Swimming is the best all-in-one muscle toning workout.

Swimming tones all muscles of the human body, arms, shoulders, legs, stomch, back and even the neck. That's why swimming is comsidered the best sport

Swimming devolps muscles in your whole body, different workouts can pressure different muscle groups though. Swimming is also a great area for Cardio also.

swimming tones every muscle in your body practically. it works your arms and legs but also your abs, gluts, lungs, feet, and back. swimming is one of the best workouts you can get. i was a swimmer for 20 years and i was in the best shape during those years
