I am looking after a pet quail but it has a very large lump of faeces stuck underneath its tail. I have tried to remove it but it is really stuck. Can you tell me how to remove it?

A small amount (2-3 drops) of antibacterial handsoap or Dawn liquid detergent in 2 quarts of warm water applied liberallly to area being treated (I'm assuming you are referring to feces in tail feathers around cloaca. Gently soak this and use a swab to remove. You may even have to trim the feathers along the feather spine.

scissors and caution.... and the bird is probably sick because a healthy quail would not have this problem. Do the bird a favor and let it go free in the woods.
