Do you have a CD or DVD burner, or just a reader. You can't burn disks if you only have a reader. You will not read disks if they aren't in the proper format. For example, and CD reader will not read DVD disks.

This is an option on your Windows Media Player. If you have this, you would see the tabs for burning, ripping, etc on the top of the opening page.

It may not be available with your program.

your drive could be malfunctioning mechanically as well. if you cant figure it out through apps try buying a new drive
