If you go into labor now, you'll just have the baby now. MOSt of the time if you go into labor before your planned c-section you're going to give birth naturally or with the help of medicine. Unless your life or the baby's life is in danger, they won't open you up once you are in active labor.

The doctor's schedule can change and you can push the blood work back too. The doctor wouldn't schedule the c-section if he wasn't confident the baby was completely developed, but if you have doubts then you have every right to bring them up with the doctor. Just start out by asking him why he wants to schedule the c-section on the 17th. It may just be because he wants to make sure you don't go into labor on your own. Or it could be something more selfish, like he doesn't want to work during the holidays... but I doubt that's actually true. Don't be afraid to question your doctor's actions or decisions. Some doctor's get annoyed (even though they shouldn't) but you do get a say in your course of treatment. Good luck!

Wait for regular contractions. If your water breaks go straight to the hospital. Since your C-section is planned I wouldn't wait for much. Good luck!! I'm 37 weeks too!

For crying out loud what in the world are all of you talking about?! The only reason that they would have scheduled a Caesarean section for you would be because the odds are that either you or the baby will die if you attempt a vaginal birth. Why on earth are all of you sitting here writing as if it is a choice tantamount to what color nail polish one should wear?
Talk to your doctor and find out what the signs of labor are so that you can IMMEDIATELY get to the hospital if labor starts! This is not something that you can CHOSE to do or not to do. This is your life or the baby's life and possibly both that you are talking about!
I am frankly shocked at the tone of the answers that you have received. A caesarean is major surgery. One is not scheduled unless there are life endangering circumstances that exist.
Please, for your sake and the sake of your baby, talk to your doctor! Do not listen to the people on here. Heck, do not listen to me if you do not want to, but PLEASE for the life of your baby, talk to your doctor and ask her the question you just asked on here. I promise you will get some very different answers.
I had 4 caesarean sections and both my babies and I would have died if I had not. My pelvis is less than half the size of a normal pelvis. It was crushed in a car accident. My doctor gave me a careful list of what to watch for, they wanted to make sure that I did not go into labor. Please don't take a chance with your life or the life of your baby. Doctors do not schedule caesarean sections capriciously.
Delivering my babies was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I was awake, I got to see them born, I even got to hold them and nurse them right away. I did not miss anything but the pain of contractions. My pain after surgery was easily controlled and nothing that I would not happily repeat. Don't listen to horror stories of what all you will miss, they are not true.
Do please talk to you doctor.

Depends why you are having a planned C-section...
If it is because of a medical condition or danger of a vaginal delivery then contact your hospital/obst as soon as labour begins.
If it is a chosen C-section with no reasoning, then personally I would wait the normal times and try to have the baby naturally, it's less dangerous, easier to recuperate after birth and a much more pleasant and natural way of giving birth.

Goodluck.

Why are you planning major abdominal surgery to birth your child?
edit:
I am asking to see if it's a choice or not. Believe it or not, 25% of women in our country have csections, when the average rate of people who medically need them is around 10%. I am asking for a real reason. If it's medical, then she should go in right away. If not, I am curious as to why she would choose csection over natural birth.

Keep your thumbs to yourselves ;-)

GO TO THE HOSPITAL AND THEY WILL DECIDE IF YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HAVE A VAGINAL OR C-SECTION DELIVERY.
