i-pod i cant get it to work?

i got a shuffle for christmas and i put some of my cds on it and it wont play them all it dose when i plug it in to my girls lab top is blink an orange light and i am able to put music on it but it wont play it back when i unplug it any ideas?

you shouldnt have bought an ipod to begin with you should have got a creative zen they r so much better
