Better find new numbers, too.

And it is an Arabic word, not a muslim word.

I have always told my students, don't be shy, there's no such thing as a stupid question. Now that I hang out on YA, I'm not so sure. I've seen more stupid questions in the few months I've been here than I have in all my years of teaching. But I've got to say this one takes the cake!
Go ahead and call algebra "freedom math" if you like. It will go over about as well as "freedom fries" and "freedom kissing". May as well go back to the Roman numerals while you're at it. They don't work near as well for calculations, but if you ask questions like this you probalby don't do much calculation anyhow. You seem like one who'd prefer "truthiness".
Freedom math ... sheesh.....

There are such human beings as Arab Christians. So, not all Arabs are Muslims, not all Muslims are Arabs, nor are all Muslims terrorists. possibly what you're wanting this morning is Freedom Toast as a change of French Toast, with Freedom Roast espresso on the aspect. Have a superb day!

No. I don't know what you're smoking, but please stop. You'd be more accurate calling it "formula math", "equation math", or "word problem solving math". At least they reflect something of the function of algebra. By the way, algebra is Arabic from the phrase "em al-jabr wa' l muqabala".

It is derived from a Arabic word. It is no more a "Muslim" word than "complex variables" is a "Christian" word, or "Euclidean geometry" is a "Greek mythology" word. And even if it were found in the Quran, what of it? Does the name somehow detract from it's mathematical validity or importance? Of course not!

No.

Algebra isn't "Muslim" it's "Arabic"

That's like say the word Night is "Christian" when it's really "English".

But, hey, get rid of algebra, you gotta get rid of the numbers, too.

Good idea. Of course the Arabs probably stole algebra from the Indians. That's what happened with "Arabic" numerals.
