You doctor should have explained that the shot actually stops you from getting your period. That is, of course, unless you have a bad reaction...then you could have your period nonstop for three months, or anything in between. Usually, women have breakthrough bleeding the first few months. Call your doc.

When you are on the shot you rarely if ever get your period because of the hormones in the depo shot.

I was on the depo shot for FOUR years.

I wish I never went on the depo shot.

PLEASE reconsider taking the shot.

After five years you need to take a bone density check as it really screws up your bone health. You also gain weight on the shot and mood swings two weeks before the shot date is pure hell.

Please try some other birth control method (the pill! I'm on Kariva now).

Below is a good site to go to look at all the reviews of birth control methods.

I assume you mean the Depo Prevera shot. Your doctor should have explained it to you. You do not have periods on this shot unless you are late getting your next shot you can spot or have a real period.

You should also research the side effects of the shot. I was on it for 10 years and gained 100 lbs, always biotchy, mood swings, no sex drive, and alot of bad headaches. Read others comments on here about the shot if you don't believe what I say.

Your periods could be irregular for a while now. When you do get it it could last a long time to. When I got the shot i got my period for over a month and then I never had another one untill I quit getting the shot. It also made me gain 30lbs the first month and very very irritable, of coarse who wouldn't be if they just gained 30 lbs in a month. Mine was the Depo Provera shot and it was around 13 yrs ago. Hope this helped. Good Luck!

IF YOU WOULD HAVE READ ABOUT IT BEFORE GETTING IT...
YOU WOULD KNOW THAT IT CAN DECEASE THE AMOUNT OF PERIODS YOU HAVE OR DAYS. ALSO, IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST PERIOD SINCE THE SHOT IT WILL BE IRREGULAR. YOUR BODY NEEDS TO ADJUST TO THE SHOT. ITS PERFECTLY NORMAL.
