I recommend using a program called "DVD Shrink". It compresses a dual-layer movie to fit a single layer 4.7GB DVD.

Yes, most burning software give you the option of compressed the dvd or you can just burn the movie only. How?? that's depend on your burning app and i don't know which one you're using.
