VICTORY OF THE PEOPLE

1. Some people have decided that it is a made up name - this Nikisha claims it has no meaning in any language.

2. However, my quick research discovers that it has two different derivations (culture and gender), but with the same base origin and meaning.
a) African American - female
The following baby name website suggests an African American origin.
(i) "Nikeesha, Nikeisha, Nickisha, Nikisha, Niquisha Variant of Nicola (african american)"
(ii) "Nicola, Nickola, Nikola, Nicole, Nicolette, Nicoletta, Nicolla, Nikole, Nikoletta, Nikolette, Nicoline, Nikoline, Nikki, Nikkie, Nikette, Nicette, Nikosi Victorious people - female version of Nicholas (english)"

b) Russian - male
(i) This website suggests that it is a diminutive of the Russian male name Nikita.

(ii) However the BabyNames website claims that Nikita, itself, is a diminutive (of Nikolei). Usefully it gives the meaning as "Victory of the people" [see 2. a) (ii)].
