My laptop crashed, and I started reinstalling but the cd rom is damaged. I have the actual serial, but can I download windows xp from the net somewhere?

Are you sure it is the CD? Is it saying that certain files can not be copied. 99% of the time when I got this I had bad RAM. Unless you can see physical damage to the cd or some sort of HUGE scratch on the silver, my bet is the RAM.

You won't find a legal version of XP online, and anyu version you might find will probably have viruses.
Your best bet is to contact the helpline for your laptop and they wil most likely send you a free replacement CD-ROM or charge you a small replcaement fee

you can download a version using a torrent but that is illegal
