You don't even have to configure anything, it sounds like you're already on a LAN, so instead of plugging your connection into your "WAN" port (on the router), just plug your connection to the outside world into one of the other ports (on your router), and turn on your wireless antenna in your router settings...

This will make your router into an "access point" or "AP." No settings are needed, and you should be set up and going in less than 5 min.

For the connection to be succesful, you have to make sure that the router is compatible with that computer. it the router is compatible with the computer, which I am pretty sure it would be since all routers are compatible.

For you to reconfigure the router, you have to first set the router up to a secure place and make sure that it has a secure connection for the computer that you are installing or hooking it up to.

You then boot the pc up, It should read the Netgear wireless router and ask you what you would want to do with it. At that pont, you would just go with the directions they are telling you on the screen.

You can also read up reviews on CNET or if there are instructions to the router just read up on those and that will provide you with useful tips on the installation on the the NetGear router.

My recommendation would be to do the following steps:

1) unplug your cable modem to clear the MAC cache before doing anything.

2) do a factory reset on the Netgear router so it resets and previous information as well as a password or anything else on there.

3) plug the WAN port of the Netgear into cable modem and turn it back on, and plug the LAN port of the Netgear into your laptop.

4) once your laptop gets an internal IP (likely in the 192.168.x.y range -- verify via IPCONFIG from the command prompt), connect to the gateway IP address of the router and start your configuration.

Goto www.netgear.com

Look up the product you have and then reset it and start from scratch. I usually do not have too much luck reconfiguring routers. Starting from scratch usually works best.

Check Netgear's website and see if they have an online manual that you can download. Not much of an answer, I know, but that's the first thing **I'd** do. Good luck!
