Sweetie, the hymen is a small thin piece of tissue that is over the vaginal opening. It is visible,if you know what you are looking for. However, not all females have a hymen. They can be broken even without sexual intercourse. The hymen can be broken through many activities, including horse back riding. Some females are born without a hymen.Back in the times of the "knights",they used to use the hymen to indicate whether a woman was "pure" or not,but science proved them wrong. The hymen may not be absent even if one is a virgin.Have a safe and blessed new year.

Honestly, society is a little nuts about the whole hymen thing. The truth? Most girls don't even have one. They break soooo easily that a fall, or playing sports, or overzealous use of TP can break it.

The definition of the hymen is this: A membranous fold of tissue that partly or completely occludes the external vaginal orifice

There you go, EXTERNAL...it's at the very opening.
