Hi Porgie! sorry for being so quiet! You know everything in Sa comes to a stand still this time of year and it is only now that I'm back in the civlized world..:o) Anyhow, I don't want to stir things up, but I don't like this whole Christmas idea, and frankly I hate christmas time...why? Well because it is a pagan festival(on the 24 the northern parts of Europe used to celebrate the festival of the light- the coming back of the sun after the darkness of the winter). Then sometime or another some king or ruler or whatever decided to adapt the festival to get the pagans to Christianity and it was suddenly called christmas..and nowhere near the real date of Jesus' birth date and somehow in between Santa Clause also became involved and now...well it is just in big reason to spend money if you ask me...There are people who don't celebrate christmas and for me personally - that is what I would like...not feeling obligated to go to church on chrsitmas day- it has lost everything special and magic for me since I found out the truth...I'm sorry, I can't reconcile the truth about how it came to be christmas day and what Christians say it is...so for me yes certianly in a big way I've lost the christmas spirit...and I just wish it could be about being together and enjoying time as friends and family...but not even that is happening anymore...hope this is not too depressing...

Yes, that is very true! The Christmas spirit is dying out, the true meaning of Christmas is dying out. It's become a way to make money out people buying presents.
Have you every thought what Christmas would be without presents? To some people there would be no reason to have Christmas; without presents.
To me Christmas is being thankful, spending time with my family, enjoying each others company, remembering something that changed the world forever! And I wish everybody could have the same, instead of just using it (Christmas) as an excuse to buy each other presents!
Bring Back the Christmas Spirit!!! :-(

Where I live we certainly feel the Christmas season. People dress their houses with lights. They even have some kind of competition with all those lights. They fill the shops with Christmas trees enc.

Its all become to commercialised for me, it;s all about money now, Not just South Africa its everywhere. I believe that unless you believe in God and go to Church you are a hippocrite if you celebrate Christmas, remember its meant to a special day of remembering the birth of christ not buying presents for eveyone, its become a joke in my eyes.

Not in our family. We know its the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth. That's why the day is special to us,but in general....its become a money-making business.
Which is very sad I must say.
