When I remove dark blue or navy cotton clothing from the dryer, I occasionally find spots the size of a quarter which look like oil spots (or wet spots). I use Tide laundry detergent and have tried various kinds of fabric softeners but still see the spots from time to time. The spots disappear after a few more washings.

Any idea what causes this?

The detergent isn't added directly to the wash water -- it's placed in a cup which is flushed into the laundry drum during the fill cycle.

I have had this problem and it was caused by fabric softener. Detergent will not stain unless u r useing industrial strenght. Try using ball or dispenser and add a capfull of water to softener. Hope this helps!

It could be detergent spots, but ive discovered that fabric softeners leave spots on dark clothes, you may get it out with a stain remover such as resolve. I always try to let enough water get in the machine that the softener doesnt touch the clothes before the water, or I mix it with water first before putting it in.

It sounds like it's just the detergent or fabric softner. Add the detergent once the water has started, but before you put in the clothes. Powder degergent is more likely to leave spots then liquid. To much fabric softner can leave spots so maybe use dryer sheets on those clothes rather than liquid fabric softner.

yep ... it happens for now on when cleaning your clothes put detergent in before the clothes.. what is going on is your pouring the detergent over the clothes and some is setting in before the cycle begins that is also why after more washes they go away..

in case you have ruled out your washing detergent etc then I advise utilising the tactic my gadget producer recommends for cleansing it.positioned a 2 litre bottle of white vinegar in and run it via a classic cycle.it may be geared up up fabric softener or detergent inflicting the difficulty. If no longer i could touch the Whirlpool company and talk with them approximately it.

I get them too, I think they are from fabric softener. I spray on a degreaser like Greased Lightening and rewash and they come out. Good luck!

I work in apparel, and honestly, the spots you are talking about are probably oil from one type of machine or another. Some times it just happens. we cant always help it.
