I'm a recovering nail-biter myself. I went shopping with a friend last summer and we stopped in a nail shop so she could get a manicure. While there, she talked me into getting one, too (by offering to pay for it! ha).

While the girl was pushing back my cuticles and trying to clip what little bit of nail there was, she asked me why I bite my nails and didn't I know that's a nasty habit? It embarrassed me. I decided then that I was going to let my nails grow long enough to actually get a manicure I was proud of.

My nails are beautiful now. I did have one relaspe a few months ago, where I gave in and allowed myself to bite them all off. (I enjoyed it, too!) But then I was so embarrassed of my hands afterward and couldn't wait for the nails to grow back out. They're back and I have no desire to bite them again. I'm just too proud of them now.

So, the answer to your question is: Go get a manicure right now, while your nails are still ugly. That will embarrass you and encourage you to grow them out and get a "real" manicure.

Good luck!

i have the same problem...but not from getting nervous it is just a habit that is hard to break for me for a while i used this nail polish specifically designed to help you stop biting you nails and it is clear so if you don't paint younails it is not a big deal and you can also put it over the top of colored nail polish it worked really good...it tastes soooooooo bad no joke!!!! i stoped using it cause i hate painting my nail but i tell you it does work

One of the most important reasons for you to stop biting your nails is the fact that under the nail is bacteria. That should stop and make you think twice about biting your nails.
There are products available at beauty supply stores that will
stop you cold! GL

I was the worst nail-biter in history- bit 'em till they bled and couldn't stop. Then I had acrylic nails put on (they have them for men that look natural, too). The acrylic has a different texture and you will NOT WANT TO BITE IT.

Believe me.....it works!

Find something non-toxic, but foul tasting and put it on your finger tips. Or maybe even mildly toxic - like hair spray. Anything that will immediately stop you from biting your nails once you initially taste them. Or put something foul smelling on your fingertips. Obviously something that only smells up close, however. You're not wanting to drive other people away.

Put nail polish on them... The taste is gross when you bite them. Or you could go the harsh way and put Tabasco sauce on them... That will really help you stop biting them.
