Don't do it.

Pursue traditional publishing.

I've a book that's virtually self-published. The fellow just typed it out on his typewriter and xeroxed the copies/editions. He hand arranged each page gave them the book homemade binding to finish it off. It was pretty nice, but it is best to have a publisher do all that for you.

First, before proceeding, he had it copywrited to protect his work.

Do plenty of research on this subject for a few years or more.

Look at what you can do and what you can't.

But don't be in a rush to self-publish if you have to.

The majority of self-published authors do and they end up falling completely flat on their face as a result.

Of course. Many authors publish their books as ebooks. There's an initial cost, but not much compared to traditional printing houses.
