or was Ovechkin just whining about nothing? I only saw a quick clip of it on the news tonight because I watched the game on MSG, but it looked to me like Ovechkin got prodded a little, took a dive, and threw a divo-sized hissy fit about it.

It wasn't anything like a spear, just a quick jab to let him know to be on his guard - what an acting job he did playing it up though! You don't spear with the blade, the media is hyping this too much but they are making a good rivalry between both teams each time they play, don't you think?

It was a little bit of both. Briere did spear him, within the deifinition of a spear, and I believe it was in the crotch. However, as with many players in the new NHL, it appeared Ovechkin hit the ice to draw a penalty.

HAHAHA it was just a tiny spere i mean he did fall and clutch himself but he seemed ok to play the rest of the game. Deff a bit of over dramatizing on Ovechkin part. That Game was fantastic I was in the second row and everytime Ovechkin got the puck everyone just boo'ed him! What a Unbelievable 1st period!

the nhl babys ovechkin, he got wht he deserves, but he still deserves at least a 10 game supension. Briere got some reveage n thts all tht really matters

Yeah he got speared but IMO he deserved it, he didn't get injured so it's all good, If Ovechkin didn't get anything than Briere shouldn't get anything, It was payback and now its over.

He got speared in the groin. Why did Briere do it? To get revenge of course. Is that the qualities of a pro hockey player? No.

it wasn't a spear...he got jabbed a little, but Ovechkin shouldn't complain when he did the biggest gutless thing to Danny earlier in the season...paybacks... 6 goals in 11 minutes and a little jab...nice

it was a spear i saw it on tv thats bs ovie didnt fake it he got speared. and buffalo tv seemed to not have it but luckily comcast sports net had the footage and they showed it to the NHL
