Heat/warmth also aids in volatilizing allowing an odor to travel further on the wind (convection). Imaging a steaming cup of coco outside. you can see and smell the steam trail quite a distance from the cup. We can't smell the same cup as far away as it cools and certainly not very far if we let it freeze.


Cold weather effects blood circulation so you would not smell as well with a chilled numb nose as a warm nose.

The temperature affect the smell because ,for example, the smell of hot sizzling food reaches us earlier than the smell of cold food. This is because the gas released by the hot food has more teperature in comparision with the cold food. So, the diffusion of gases released by the hot food with the air will be more in(diffusion is faster in hot temperature, hot gases) in comparision with the cold food. So, the smell of hot food reaches us more faster in comparision with the cold food.
