so... if I don't have an answer I just shouldn't mention a problem? (be it a political problem... or any other really)

(I've heard this many times, mainly from conservatives)

this seems a bit naive to me... if I point out a problem... then maybe everyone can work on fixing it... if I don't know how to fix it...

but if I don't point it out... it may go unnoticed and cause great harm...

if you see a bridge on the highway is cracking badly... do you just ignore it because you're not in bridge repair/design and don't know to fix it... or should you maybe bring it up to someone in hopes that they may have an idea on how to fix it?

ignoring problems that you don't have an answer too seems very juvenile... "ignore it and it will go away" rarely works...

I'd have to say yes. Only a fool stars problem solving without at least an approach.

Of course not. You are human. No one expects you to know the answer to everything. Bringing problems to light ensures many views are able to offer their solutions. Keeping problems to yourself will not have them solved. Pointing out problems faciltates the exchange of ideas, one of which could be the solution.

"I'd have to say yes. Only a fool stars problem solving without at least an approach.
Source(s):
I new this guy in the service that was always pointing out other peoples short cummings, he got shot in the face, this solved his problem."

-So everytime you point out a problem you get shot in the face? I'm guessing you're a Harvard graduate with all of your infinite logic and wisdom?

His question was whether pointing out a problem is stupid. Not starting a problem. Because you point out a problem does not in any way prove you are the cause of the problem. Let's imagine Winston Churchill never admonished Europe and America of Hitler's rise. He became the laughing stock of British politics. And sure enough, what do you know, Hitler establishes and evil regime, and who do the British people run to? You guessed it, Winston Churchill, the joke of Parliament. Pointing out problems is the beginning to finding a solution.

1)Define problem
2)Gather information
3)Determine alternatives
4)Choose the one that best accomplished objectives

Notice you can't find a solution without "pointing out," in this case defining, the problem. Again, defining, or pointing out the problem, is the first step to finding a solution. Again, it also offers several views to offer solutions, two heads are better than one, the more the merrier.

Depending on how you point it out (do you do it nicely?) it may be interpreted as attacking (especially in politics) because the other side may not see it as a problem like you do, and in that case it would serve no purpose. So, in order for them to understand you should offer solutions. If it's an obvious or urgent problem like the bridge, then it's okay.

Never ignore the problem. Acknowledging the problem is the first step toward a solution. And in my opinion when the system is absolutely broken nobody can do worse trying to fix it even if he or she isn't exactly sure what will work.

No. It isn't stupid to point out certain things by asking questions, however, be sure that your questions are intelligent and meaningful. Too many questions are asked on this site that are "stupid" and do not represent a thoughtful, intelligent person but rather someone who has nothing better to do than play with Q&A T pass time.

In my opinion it is best to point a problem...answer on hand or not. Of course doing so in a courteous manner is called constructive critisism and doing so meanly is ...well, just not helpful to anyone. But yes, point out problems and then hopefully they can be fixed since addressed.

Its always okay to ask a question. Complaining does no good unless you are asking for help. I think you will see the frustrations rise when all you see are complaints, whining, and criticizing and not a logical alternative solution or anyone even interested in a logical answer and you certainly don't see anyone asking for a solution amongst the lot.

Of course you should bring it up. If it's a legitimate complaint, then somebody should look into it.

They're just being pissy and accusing you of b!tching and moaning because they'd rather be lazy and get away with doing nothing. Be a thorn in the side of the capitalist swine.

But not real swine--pigs are cool and if they have thorns in their sides, you should remove them. I like piggies.

I personally think you are absolutely correct. Arguing that an individual shouldn't point a problem just because they personally don't have a solution is both silly and ignorant.

Your reasoning about the situation is sound.

There is no such thing as a "stupid" question. Here, the is a real thing called insulting and bullying answers.

These are just insecure people trying to convince unsuspecting people to stop expressing their views and go away.

Stay and keep writing..

Go ahead and ask, that is supposed to be one of the reasons that we are here. Probably those that get bent out of shape, don't know the answer either.
