Americans are always talking about democracy and how they need to 'bring' it to the rest of the world and all Americans believe they live in some democratic utopia, but lets look at the facts bush rigged the vote and then lied to the whole country to illegally invade another country in the name of democracy, they had democracy before the USA even existed. The USA/CIA had always supported dictators and tryed to remove democratically elected leaders.

Iraq was historically known as Mesopotamia, This land was home to the world's first civilization, the Sumerian culture, followed by the Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian cultures, whose influence extended into neighboring regions as early as 5000 BC. These civilizations produced the earliest writing and some of the first sciences, mathematics, laws and philosophies in the world, making the region the center of what is commonly called the "Cradle of Civilization".

Great! You are indeed a fine historian. However, what about the recent Iraq under the "democratic" rule of Saddam Hussein? Here is a guy who killed thousands upon thousands of people in order to maintain "peace" in his empire. He started wars with his neighbors for land and riches and killed even more thousands. He killed his people without a trial. He bled the country while many of his people were extremely poor. Seventeen palaces. One isn't enough? Shall I go on? Iraq wasn't invaded to make them a democracy. This line of BS came later when they didn't find WMD, which, by the way, did exist. They are now comfortably resting in Syria where Saddam shipped them before he was invaded. This was confirmed by Israeli intelligence and an Iraqi general. Hooray for the Iraqi democracy.

I agree with you on Bush ( I did not vote for him) he is not a president of the people.
That means that even though he was voted into his second term , he is not we like and will be remember as a president that took us into a war with a lack of invendence.
It is his job and the job of his advisers to make sure that all his information is correct.
Based on different source, also from our allies. Now with a democrate congress he is what we can a lame duck president. President with little or no power.
Remember he is not like super smart and cheney was behind him all the way until now.
We in the U.S. like in a great country. No were else, can i critize the president, a trait shared by the british. You great people.
I truely beleive that the founders of our country had the consept that is truely the best.
Present day people do not realize it is not for everyone or every country. truely sad.
as for supporting dictators
I am young and not well versed in history, and like my friends only worried about the here and now.
I hope that the next president works on things that will make our country great.. a
nd stay OUT of politics that were don't belong.

I hope you don't mind me here I love your YA. Sometimes so much nicer than the U.S. so if you mail me if you want.

Fact #1 America is not a democracy it is a ...(hint) "and to the R....... for which it stands, one nation".
Fact #2 Bush did not "rig" the election, he won more electoral votes which, like it or not, is what wins elections in a R........
Fact# 3 Though you may disagree with why we invaded Iraq, I do not believe technically you can say it was illegal, in consideration of the fact that Saddam did not comply with the terms of the original ceasefire agreement.
Fact# 4 In world affairs you try to keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Fact #5 The so called "rest" of the world historically would be worse off with out us.
That's all folks...

We live in a world of wild wolves.
The USA just wants to make sure it stays the biggest
wolf on the block democracy has very little to do with it.
I am not American but even I can understand that basic
natural law.
Got to say don't like the US policies much but in the main I'm glad they are the biggest wolf, some of the others on the block are really mangy.....

I live in America but haven't paid much attention to politics since I am under 18. However I believe the american gov. is a federal republic based on democracy. I mean we do vote but the senate and congress are the ones who actually make the decisions around here. We aren't always talking about democracy and how we need to spread it but the politicians are. Also America just wants to have alliances with other nations and is afraid of having a dictator in rule because then eventually we would have to aid the people to have them on our side. Its just to prevent war.

The United States of America is a constitutional republic. The word DEMOCRACY is not part of the US Constitution, as far as I know.

The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy.

Neither of the above countries have 'democracy'.

Democracy from the Greek, means the people elect their own aristocracy. This does not happen here in UK and neither does it happen in USA.

In both countries there are far too many people running things who have not been elected.

Republicans believe in a more aggresive foreign policy, and more acts to extend democracy.
Democrats are more isolationist in nature.
In WW1, people in America began to view the war as one of democracies and autocracies.
But America has been hypocritical of democracy at times.
In the cold war, it supported dictators and denied free elections in Vietnam because America knew the Communists would win.

Democracy? The Americans are only in favour if it benefits them in some way.

Hamas won a democratic election, and now the Plestinians are being penalised for voting in the "wrong" way/

And then there's Iran: Also a fairly democratic election, won by the "wrong" candidate.

Who's next?
